The Lady Toppers, who seek a third consecutive SBC title and the eighth in program history, finished the regular season with wins over Miami (Fla.), Cumberland, Xavier, Tulane, New Orleans, Evansville and Southern Illinois, while also posting a top finish in the Hilltopper Invite.

The Hilltoppers, who finished third in the 2009 championships, have earned wins over Xavier, Tulane, Evansville and Southern Illinois, while also capturing first in the Hilltopper Invite.

The Lady Toppers enter the championships ranked seventh in the country in the current mid-major poll, while the men's team is ranked eighth.

On the women's side, the Lady Toppers boast four athletes who won individual events in the 2009 championships. Junior Claire Donahue, who captured titles in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly last season, has dominated opponents this season, posting the 16th-best time in the country in the 100 fly and the 36th-best time in the 200 fly. Donahue looks to sweep the butterfly events for the second consecutive season and will enter the championships leading the conference in both events.

"Claire has been the cornerstone of the women's program for the past three years," Marchionda said. "Her strong leadership by example is a key factor in moving our women's program forward. Last season at the SBC championships, the Lady Toppers won eight events, including two relays. The Lady Toppers also captured nine second-place finishes and eight third-place finishes.

Penhale is ranked 31st in the country in the 1,000 free and 96th in the 1,650 free, and leads the SBC in both events. He claimed first place in the 1,650 free during last year's championship while placing second in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 free.

"Sean has picked up this year where he left off last year," Marchionda said. "Again, he is a very strong leader by example and he has some lofty goals for the conference championship and beyond. We shall see what he is able to accomplish."

Hilltopper swimmers are currently ranked first in the Sun Belt in eight events. WKU picked up one first-place finish at the 2009 championships, two second-place finishes, two third-place finishes, two fourth-place finishes and a fifth-place finish.

HILARY O'Leary is gearing up to have a cracking good time at this year's Queensland Whipcracking and Plaiting Championships tomorrow.

The event, which is in its ninth year, is part of next weekend's Clifton Show and draws entries from across Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Mr O'Leary, who is the organiser, said the whipcracking and plaiting competitions had grown over the years.

"We encourage the pee wees because they are tomorrow's up and coming crackers," he said.

"It is more about them having a go than what they can do."

DETECTIVES are hunting an offender who allegedly forced a man to empty his pockets while repeatedly assaulting him.

Police have launched an appeal for information in connection with the robbery, which allegedly took place in Mary Street, Scunthorpe, between 10.35pm and 10.55pm on Friday, January 29.
